Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue

#15 in United States, #1 in District of Columbia, #1 in Washington

Laila's Legacy was founded with a mission to ensure dogs impacted by breed bias and behavioral or physical challenges have a chance at a better life. Laila, our name sake, was an incredible dog who had a behavioral challenge that caused aggression towards dogs. Laila loved her humans, and especially our Co-Founder, Ashe. She was a large bully breed so her size combined with local breed bias meant sometimes people were afraid of her. But that didn't stop her from winning people over with her goofy energy. The rescue she was with did not have the resources to support Laila and couldn't find a suitable partner to take on her care because of her size and breed. As a result she was euthanized. Laila's Legacy was founded to save dogs like Laila. We never want a dog to be euthanized because an owner, a volunteer, or an organization didn't have the resources or because breed bias stopped them from getting the help they deserved. Dogs like Laila deserve a chance at life and that's what we're here to do!

Sweet Home Doberman is fantastic in the way they support their fosters and their adoptive families. They will drop everything to make sure that the dog and the families have every bit they need to be successful. I have done home visits for them as well as supported their transports. Even when a dog was fractious, they did everything they could to make sure their volunteers were safe. As an animal control officer, this means the world to us. I have contacted them about special cases where they helped me move at risk dogs out of a bad situation. They truly pour every ounce of their hearts into this mission.

It is SHDR's personal mission to assist these magnificent breeds in any way we can. We are dedicated to educating the public as well as future Doberman owners about these majestic, often misunderstood breeds. They are often portrayed as aggressive dogs who will attack at a moment's notice when in fact they are Velcro dogs who are loyal, protective, and want to please their family! A Doberman wants nothing more than to be by your side and on your couch. All SHDR rescues are up to date on their shots, HW tested, microchipped, and spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Some come into rescue injured or abused and it may take a little longer to ready them for a forever home.

The creation of a new Animal Services Department under the arm of Administrative Services signified a shift to a modern approach to shelter, control and programs. With a focus on community partnerships, this forward-facing approach works to ensure safe and healthy environments for people and pets. The department promotes responsible pet ownership, implements programs to reduce animal overpopulation, and has formed innovative partnerships and programs to increase the City's effectiveness in supporting animals and humans in Mobile. As part of this approach, a newly modernized Animal Services facility is currently in design and will be built in a new location central to all parts of the City, and many new positions are also being added to further our mission and programs. Juneau Animal Rescue is a private, non-profit shelter, located in Juneau, Alaska. Our shelter was founded in 1963 by members of our community who collaborated to help disadvantaged and homeless animals. We are proud to have served domestic animals in Juneau and its outlying communities for 60 years. Although we are also contracted to perform Animal Control and Protection Services by the City and Borough of Juneau, we are not a government entity. We continue to rely heavily on the generous contributions from the public in order to sustain our honored tradition of serving animals in need in our community. It is through these contributions that Juneau Animal Rescue has been able to endure and care for animals in need successfully throughout its many years. Our animal shelter began as a small shed under the bridge over Gastineau Channel. While we will always be proud of those humble beginnings, our new name and logo more accurately convey the community spirit of the organization that has served Juneau’s animal population since 1963. In January 2019 we changed our name to Juneau Animal Rescue, hoping to strengthen awareness of our organization and expand our public outreach. We are continually grateful for the generous support of the community and look forward to the next 50 plus years of service as Juneau Animal Rescue.

We are funded solely by public donations through social media. We are grateful for the opportunity to help these animals. We would go to any length to #SAVETHESTREETDOGS

My name is Geri Hormel and I am the founder of Almost There Rescue. What do we do at ATR? We save bitches. No, we don't go around seeking out malicious, unpleasant women and try to convince them to change their ways (although someone should!). We save dogs. Specifically, homeless, pregnant, large-breed dogs. We scoop those gals up from less than ideal situations and give them a place to birth and raise their pups. We work our tails off to give our pups the medical help, enrichment, socialization, and love that they need on their journeys to finding forever homes.

Last Chance AR believes in advocating for the abused, abandoned, and neglected animals across the state that cannot speak for themselves. Working in conjunction with various clinics, Last Chance AR travels statewide to urban and rural communities to provide comfort, safety, and love to animals in need. Hundreds of lives have been saved through our efforts, which include a spay and neuter program for impoverished pet owners, frequent visits to rescue animals from shelters suffering from a desperate lack of funding, and the complete inability for any of our patient and dedicated volunteers to turn down a creature in need. We serve as a resource to our community and local pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training and good nutrition. We work with committed volunteers, veterinarians, fosters, and trainers to provide health care and temporary homes to animals deserving of another chance. Our number one priority is ensuring the health of all of our dogs and carefully screening and well matching ‚furever homes.

    Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue

Golden Retrievers, regardless of medical needs or age, will receive comprehensive evaluation, spay/neutering services, veterinary care, behavioral training if required, and safe passage into a permanent loving home. I have volunteered for Meridian Canine Rescue (MCR) for the last 3 years but I have been volunteering for rescues/shelters for over 10 years. MCR is unique in that it saves dogs with behavior problems that would otherwise be euthanized. Adopters end up with a fully trained dog ready to live with a family. They also are offering free behavioral help to anyone who asks for it to help keep dogs with their families and not be surrendered. These two aspects of MCR are very unique in the rescue world. And very much needed. This past weekend they moved to a new location to better serve their animals and the public. This has been a drain financially but will be worth it in the long run as they will be able to save more animals, offer more classes and offer the animals staying with them a much better environment. We hope you'll consider this little rescue!

The Furry Farm Rescue is an incredible rescue that always puts their rescues above everything else. They were fantastic when I adopted my first dog 4 years ago. This year they reached out to me when they needed an emergency foster for a puppy. They knew my dog and me well enough to know the puppy would be the perfect fit. I recommend them to anyone looking to foster or adopt.

I adopted my Koda from the Idaho Humane Society in October 2023. He had the sweetest face and was listed as a "TLC" adoption which meant some extra screening steps. It started with a phone call to make sure I understood his personality and needs and to see if that would fit with my lifestyle and expectations. Then we scheduled a meet & greet for me and also for my current dog. I met Koda (previously Luca) and 2 staff members coached me through how to interact with him and let him decide if I was his human. Then we went and got my lab, Chauncey, to see if they could be friends. The whole process was over an hour. I loved how dedicated they were to finding the RIGHT home for him. They also gave me a lot of tips on how to make him feel safe and comfortable, how to let him lead interactions and how to read his body language. He has been such a wonderful addition to our home! I also love that they routinely transfer dogs in from other areas to help with medical care and improving their chances of adoption. Koda was found as a stray in a rural part of the state and haf some medical issues. They brought him in, fixed him up, and got him ready for his forever family.

I cannot say enough good things about this rescue. Two women who volunteered at the municipal intake, high kill city shelter started a foster based rescue group focused primarily on the most at risk of euthanasia bully breeds! Two people! They’ve created a small army of repeat fosters and dedicated volunteers, foster buddy systems and they cover everything from vet, toys, food, bowls and crates - almost no other city rescue covers so much! They write hilarious adoption profiles and social media posts to lighten up a really dismal city rescue situation. They’ve gotten a shout out for their remarkable work from a fellow Chicago rescue group (One Tail at a Time) who hadn’t been able to pull as many CACC dogs. Dayna and Tara deserve a prize!

CCR is an amazing rescue. Their motto is “leave no dog behind” and they really take that to heart. As a foster family, CCR is incredibly responsive and helpful when we have any questions or concerns. They have saved countless dogs from kill shelters and don’t discriminate when it comes to dogs with disabilities or medical troubles. CCR is the best rescue I have ever worked with!

However, today, Chicago Canine Rescue exists to give many of these animals a second chance, too! CCR assists the animals that are the MOST vulnerable in our city ‚the dogs that are slated for euthanasia because they are too old, too young, too injured, have disabilities, or have simply been overlooked for too long by potential adopters at other shelters. We are committed to each dog who comes into our care and won't stop providing for them we find their perfect family! I started fostering for Homeward Bound in 2020. I quickly fell in love with everything about the rescue. They find forever homes for dogs from every walk of life. They take in dogs that have medical conditions or dogs that may not look “perfect” that were relinquished by breeders, homeless dogs found wandering the streets and in some cases hurt and malnourished. They also take in dogs from kill shelters, many of which are diagnosed with heart worm and need treated before they are available for adoption. For Homeward bound it’s, not just about the dogs they take in. It’s also about setting their dogs up for success with their new homes. They have a strong fostering program. They know that giving a dog the opportunity to live in a foster home prior to adoption sets them up for success. Sometimes they even enroll their dogs into socialization classes. I personally attended a 6 week course with one of my fosters. Homeward Bound also has a very thorough vetting process. I know this because one of my personal dogs was a foster fail. Not only do they ask a lot of questions, they verify that potential adopters are up to date on vaccines & heart worm prevention on dogs they already have & that the dogs have been spay or neutered. For Homeward Bound it’s not just about finding dogs homes, it’s about finding the RIGHT home for their dogs.

I have been a volunteer here for a little over a year. I am so impressed with the level of care and concern this organization puts to making sure each dog is carefully tended to - getting the right medical attention and treatment and making sure the adoption process is thorough and that the final pick ends up as the forever home and family. I feel proud of the work done here and getting to be part of all of it. It's a lot easier than I expected it would be to help with the care of the dogs. Of course I love every single one but I am so glad to get to be a small part of making sure they find their forever family. Getting to see the process and the happy endings makes the work worthwhile.

We are brought together by the dogs that steal our hearts while chewing the shoe collection. Tier Haven Rescue, Inc was originally incorporated in 1996 under the name ARK Project, Inc and is a long standing member of the animal rescue community in Kentucky. Originally an all-breed rescue Tier Haven shifted to focus on working dogs with the rise of breed specific legislation which was leading to larger numbers of German Shepherds, and other working dogs, being euthanized. We are rooted in Kentucky with a strong passion for enacting change within the state which has a long journey towards building our animal welfare laws. Even as breed specific legislation has dwindled there are still large numbers of working dogs finding themselves at risk of euthanasia due to a lack of breed knowledge and/or training. Tier Haven is committed to giving these dogs a second chance and we are all honored to be part of their paths to a better life.

I have adopted three Britney's and am thank for the rescue centers. One came from Texas, another Missouri, and the third Tennessee. American Britney Rescue was involved in two of the adoptions . I could not find them on the list so i voted for a couple local shelters that does great work.

    Rescue Charlie's Friends

Rescue Charlie's Friends was established in 2018 because we love dogs and want them to have the best life possible. Many dogs lost their homes due to fire, floods or hurricanes. Others have been abandoned, neglected or abused. Whatever the cause, our mission is to rescue them and match them with a loving forever family. Most of our dogs come from high-kill shelters. The shelters do the best they can but due to limited facilities, dogs can't stay long. Dogs must be moved out quickly or be put down. These are Charlie's Friends. These are the dogs that we focus on. We stay in touch with shelters and volunteers in Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and elsewhere. We bring the dogs to Maine where Fosters care for them until they are adopted. We rescue as many dogs as we can but we always need more help.

  • Key to lions heart rescue Logo

    Key to lions heart rescue

Key to Lion's Heart Rescue was founded in January 2018 in honor of Lion, a dog who made a tremendous impact on so many lives. Lion was dumped at a very high kill shelter where his time was up. Without knowing his past, he was pulled by a rescue and placed into a home. Lion was then moved nine times over the course of one year in an effort to find the right home. Unfortunately, the second to last move was that one that forever changed his soul. Just like people, dogs have a breaking point, and Lion had reached his. He had been through more in one year than any dog should ever have to go through in a lifetime. His last move was to a home where he was loved and cared for by a handful of people, his advocates for many months. Unfortunately, it was too late. The pain and suffering he had endured in some of his previous places was more than Lion could overcome. The light in his eyes was gone and he was suffering. In the arms of the people who loved him dearly, we whispered our goodbyes and told him how much we loved him. Humans had failed him. As we kissed him goodbye, we promised Lion that we would do our best to ensure no dog would ever have to endure what he had in his last year. At that moment, we dedicated ourselves to unlocking hope for all dogs by giving a little piece of our hearts to every single one that we can save.

Last Hope is an amazing organization who rescues dogs in Arkansas and brings them up to New England to be adopted. They made the whole adoption process so seamless and I love that every dog is in a foster home prior to being adopted so that you could talk to their foster parents, and get a sense for the dog and if they’d be a good fit.

LHK9 is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit all-breed dog rescue based in Massachusetts. We are dedicated to saving abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs from high-kill shelters in Central Arkansas and beyond. Though our rescue efforts are focused in the Central Arkansas area, we also serve as a resource for local dog surrenders, shelters, and special rescue efforts in other areas. We don't discriminate on the basis of age, pre-existing medical conditions, or breed, because every dog deserves to know love. As the literal ‚'last hope' of the dogs we serve, our southern fosters pull dogs and puppies from partner shelters in Arkansas. While in foster, each dog receives love, care, and medical treatment, then receives a health clearance and transports to New England. After a mandatory 48-hour quarantine stay and an additional health clearance, each dog is picked up and fostered by a northern foster family who serves as a gateway to his/her adoptive home, affectionately known as a FURever home.

When I was in a desperate spot, I was trying to rescue a puppy from almost certain death. I feel like I called around everywhere and all I got was answering machines. Rejoyceful actually answered the phone with a real person and helped me figure everything out. I became a foster, then a foster fail :) I have since had whelping mamas, puppies of all ages, and a little bit of everything in between it seems. Every step of the way Rejoyceful has been like a family to me. And the bond only grows stronger and stronger as time goes by. I love this place everyone involved has the biggest hearts and it shows in everything we do.

Here at ARAR, we see our shelter as a safe transition point for many animals in need. Our goal is to keep animals in our shelter for the least amount of time possible. It is just a place for them to crash before their next step into a foster or adoptive home. Currently, we have about 30 cats and 10 dogs in our shelter. We do our best to make the animal's time here the best it can be. When they are in their kennels we play calming doggie music and they get enrichment actives. As we do not have a fenced in yard area outside, on nice days we schedule SniffSpots for our shelter residents! It is a great way that they can explore a new space and get some energy out.

In a span of almost 10 years my husband and I have adopted/rehomed (Hazel) and adopted/rescued (Greta) through The Heart Of MI Bernese Rescue. They have always been there for us to help or answer any question. The process is lengthy, logical and thorough, but necessary so the rescued pup is placed in their “forever home”. We also continually assist with transporting the endless number of dogs from puppymills and other situations to other transporters or foster homes, all is set up and organized by Heart of Michigan. There is an amazing group of people out there helping to create and place these wonderful dogs in a decent, safe and loving home and Heart of Michigan Bernese Rescue puts it all in place. The organization expresses its appreciation to its volunteers as much as those pups being saved do. HEART ♥️ OF MICHIGAN BERNESE RESCUE IS THE BEST🖤🤎🤍
  • Heart of Michigan Bernese Mountain Dog Rescue Logo

Heart of Michigan Bernese Mountain Dog Rescue

Rescues are frequent. Re-homings are more frequent. Re-homings differ from rescues in the fact that we will have a history of the dog and its need. Puppies don't normally need to be placed until they get bigger than the owner had intended and therefore are not as common in rescue. Please keep in mind that most ‚rescue/rehome dogs, are placed because of behavioral problems, most, but not all. Many of the dog's issues were due to lack of training and socialization. Most problems can be addressed and corrected in a stable and loving home. If you really want a Berner, do tons of research. Our advice is to attend shows, join a BMD club and research breeders. If you would like to be considered for a rescue or re-homing, please read our policy's on the Adopting page. The mission of the HMBMD Rescue program is to take in dogs of Bernese Mountain Dog parentage that are in shelters, surrendered by their owners, or that have become lost and abandoned, and to place them in permanent pet homes in order to help provide a safe harbor that they might otherwise be destroyed or abandoned.

We think about all the visits to the vet, the training, the full food bowls, walks, belly rubs, and all the healing that was given to each of them through the love and safety we were able to provide. Knowing that we were able to help them heal and be ready to love their forever family is a blessing beyond compare. There is still work to be done and by the grace and selflessness of our volunteer and foster teams, along with our generous donors we will continue. There are so many pups even as you read this that are alone and sick, abandoned in kill shelters and on roadsides, living a life filled with fear and abuse. We are steadfast in our commitment to continue to make a difference, one dog at a time.

I volunteered at Stray Rescue when I lived in St. Louis for a year. Every day, I was there volunteering alongside the caregivers. Now, living back in Indiana, I still volunteer when I go back to visit. I have seen first hand, behind the scenes, the great work they do. They take the dogs who have been shot, left, forgotten, neglected, the list goes on. They keep dogs for as long as they need a space because of the amazing volunteers they have through their Rehabilitation Enrichment Program who take each dog, even if not the most social on long walks, car rides, park visits - wherever the dog will be most comfortable for extended time out of the shelter. They have countless fosters but as with any rescue, can always use more. The dogs are the number one focus and the staff is amazing. My only downside is they’re in St. Louis and I’m not as close by any more. However, I’m still very connected and admire all the work they do. They are working on a new, larger facility to not just continue the good they do but increase their capacity. I love Stray Rescue. They are my family.

    Stray Rescue of St. Louis

What sets Stray Rescue of St. Louis apart in the animal welfare community near and far? We seek out and take in those who no other organization will help or would simply euthanize because they are too expensive to heal. We take the abandoned, beaten, bred, fought, injured, terrified, defeated and betrayed. We see beyond their brokenness and are here to pick up the pieces to make these special animals whole again. We see the individual and know that there's no one size fits all treatment plan. The minute they enter our doors, we look in their eyes and promise them ALL the second chance they deserve for health, home, commitment and love. Because these animals come in with a story that would give us all nightmares, it takes them longer to open up, trust and believe in humankind again. But with patience and time always on their unique schedule we see the light shine in their eyes again. Animals have an amazing ability to forgive which never ceases to amaze us.

This organization started as a grass roots organization bringing awareness to the chained backyard dog. It has since educated the public of the many detriments of chaining a dog and has spread the word and now people do not just pass by saying ‘poor dog’ they know there is support and help for this dog. UMDR is solely responsible for this awareness and is proud to know that many other organizations have brought this rescue effort into it’s fold. Humane Society of Western Montana

The Humane Society of Western Montana was incorporated in 1963 as the Missoula Humane Society. At that time, our community had a considerable overpopulation of pets. So much so that thousands came through our doors and difficult decisions were made. Fast forward to the present and there is much to celebrate. Our community embraced spay/neuter programs and as a result, the sheer volume of pets coming through our doors for rehoming dropped from over 8,000 to approximately 1,400. HSWM is grateful for the work of all our volunteers and staff over the years. We wish our work was done. However, in many ways it is just beginning. When we consider pet welfare across the state, there are many areas where spay/neuter has simply been an unavailable and unaffordable service. There are communities where pet populations are at unsustainable levels and dogs and cats go hungry. People and pets in those areas need our help. And, as costs rise, many here in Missoula are now finding they cannot afford care. This is why we offer free vaccine clinics, low cost spay neuter services and travel long distances to provide care to underserved clients and pets. Through our programs, which include a robust foster care system, food pantry, behavior hotline and veterinary care, we serve more animals outside the shelter than within our walls. And we are growing.

I thought volunteering would make me sadder seeing the behind the scenes of the shelter. I could not be more proud of the Nebraska Humane Society. I ended up adopting, and was offered many resources and it’s so obvious how much they care for every animal.

We offer shelter to animals who have no place to call home and provide vital services to them and to the people who love them. Every year, more than 24,000 animals, including wildlife, find their way to our doors. Through our programs, we touch the lives of more than 200,000 people annually with our message of compassion and humane treatment for all living creatures. We are housed on a 13-acre campus with four buildings, 170 dedicated staff members and 500 volunteers.

Epona Horse Rescue is located just outside Crete, Nebraska. We are located on roughly 10 acres of pasture land, with a 4 stall barn and plans to add an additional barn soon. "SAVING LIVES OTHERWISE LOST..." Epona Horse Rescue is an organization based on the premise that all equine and other animals should live freely from cruelty, neglect and abuse. Many horses simply end up in a rescue situation due to lack of training or being too young or too old to be of use to mankind. Epona is dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of unbroken or unhandled horses and to the very young and the aged equine that are often rejected. We strive to educate the public on the fate of many of America's horses and ask for the support of the American public. Money is always a pressing need in the rescue. Feed, hay, shelter and veterinary care are the largest of expenses. We also need farrier care, office support and volunteers to continue the work. Your support can help the rescue continue to rescue and rehabilitate these wonderful animals. We are a non-profit organization under the IRS 501 (c)(3) regulations.

    Dog Town Canine Rescue

Since 2003. Dog Town Rescue has focused on saving dogs from the absolute worst situations. Dogs abandoned by humans, dogs coming from survival situations fending for themselves in the desert, and feral dogs living on the fringes of civilization. Many of the dogs we have saved needed to be caught in a humane trap in order to safely bring them to our shelter. The dogs we rescue are not vaccinated. We have taken in dozens of dying puppies with Parvo. They are not fixed, which is a huge contributor to unwanted and neglected dogs. They are not fed properly, so most are full of tapeworms from eating rabbits and roadkill. Loose dogs get into fights, hit by cars, have untreated injuries with infections. We've rescued dogs with buckshot and/or .22 bullets in them that our vet removed while they were being spayed/neutered. We also serve our local Indigenous communities by providing free of charge dog spay/neuters for Tribal members. Most of our neighboring Colonies and Reservations are located in remote areas, and have little to no animal services. City and County animal control are jurisdictionally limited as to what they can provide, but as a non-governmental organization, Dog Town goes where the need is.

There are an estimated 500,000 stray dogs in Puerto Rico, a US Commonwealth about the size of Connecticut. Back in October of 2018 four team members went to the island to see if they could help. Throughout the week, the team saved over 30 dogs. Within the next 8 months, the team visited the island 3 more times and continued to save another 50 Satos and placed them in loving homes. They volunteered at The Spayathon for Puerto Rico, doing everything they could to make a difference, but it still was not enough. This is when Save the Satos was formed. We have made it our life's mission to not stop until we make a difference in the stray population on this beautiful little island.

    New Mexico Boston Terrier Rescue

We are a small non-profit organization passionate about helping rescue, protect, and place Boston's in loving homes across New Mexico. Milagro Boston Terrier Rescue (MBTR) began in 1999 with an elderly Boston Terrier named Mr. Buggs. His owner had passed and left Mr. Buggs an orphan. Mr. Buggs was a dancer who loved to prance about everything. Rescue of Boston Terriers in New Mexico was being done by Nancy Gage of Los Lunas and Dyl Osborne of Abiquiu. Both had decided it was time for them to look for help with the Bostons and they came to me. My Grandmother, Rev. Mable E. Dawe ( 1904-2006) was born in McIntosh near Estancia. While living in Gallup in the 1930's, she developed and affection for Boston Terriers, then called Boston Bulls. Her two favorites, Dempsey and Beans, were featured in stories she shared through the years. It was and continues to be my homage to Nana that is my inspiration in 1999 and continues today. When you have a rescue, it's essential to have a 501c3 to raise money for the dogs. My Corrales neighbor, Joyce Fay, operated Bro & Tracy Animal Welfare in Corrales. MBTR worked as a separate entity under Bro & Tracy until 2014 when MBTR was approved as a 501c3. Milagro Vineyards and Winery is our business in Corrales. We started growing grapes in 1985 and began using the name Milagro, miracle in Spanish, to convey the Divine intervention needed to grow grapes in the fickle climate of New Mexico. The Boston Terrier rescue has always operated in tandem with the vineyards and winery, so, using the same name worked on many levels. The work of the rescue is only successful with the same Divine intervention relied on to grow the grapes. It is our core value and reason for success.

Ahhhhhhhhh......what can I say about Nicole and Charleys without writing a whole.book?! This woman and her whole team is a God sent to the animals. My son recently became incarcerated.....part of my journey is being fully transparative of the situation, so here goes. My 22 year old son, whom had moved out of my home about 3 months prior, had a police raid done on his "home". When I arrived I was told by officers there was a dog inside the home that needed removed. Fast forward, the female removed was pregnant. I went into panic mode, as I have never had a pregnant dog before, and this was not my dog!!! I posted the dog on lost and found sites on Facebook, hoping to find her owner or someone who at least knew this beautiful sweet soul, and could take her in. I received a message from Nicole at Charleys that she could take her in. That very day, one of her volunteers came to my home, almost 2 hours away from her home, and picked the pregnant mama up. 2 days later she went into labor and required and emergency c section.....all funded by Charleys of course, and as I followed this dogs progress via Charleys facebook page, I came to find out she had 2 little cute puppies. I am an animal lover and owner myself, and was so ashamed I had to reach out to a rescue for my son's poor decisions, and to do the rite thing for this loving innocent animal. Both babies , as well as the mother, have since been adopted, and secretly....in the shadows, I follow Charleys page and donate when I can. Nicole, her team, and Charleys will FOREVER hold a special place in my heart! She is the epitome of dedication, kindness, and LOVE to the lost, forgotten, and unloved animals. Thank you Nicole for founding Charleys.....you are TRULY an amazing soul.

They are in the process of building a bigger and better rescue so they can help more animals. I admire TMAR’s dedication and their tireless efforts to help the helpless.

Welcome! We are Diamond in the Ruff, a pet rescue operating out of Fargo, North Dakota. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization that depends on foster homes, volunteers, and generous community donations to continue saving the lives of animals. We work to rescue and rehabilitate abandoned animals before permanently placing them in loving homes. We also aim to educate the public about proper animal care, prevention of breed discrimination, and the importance of spaying/neutering animals in order to combat the escalating overpopulation problem in our community and across the country. It is important to us that we have a lasting impact on the lives of animals as well as the people who interact with us. We are a new organization working to create a foundation that can be used to save animals’ lives. Our rescue operates entirely with the help of volunteers and foster families. Donations of any size contribute to our cause by helping us provide our foster homes with supplies and our animals with the comforts and assistance they need after they’ve been admitted to our rescue. Our org2021 Guidestar Gold Sealanization earned a 2021 Gold Seal of Transparency! Now, everyone can view our financial details and learn about the people at our organization. I adopted my dog fancy from there and she was so well taken care of prior to me getting her. I will always recommend one of a kind to anyone looking to adopt. We are a no-time-limit shelter, and no adoptable animal is euthanized. Many of our animals come from Animal Control Facilities (the pound) just prior to their scheduled euthanasia. Sick or injured animals brought to us by Good Samaritans are often given priority. Owner surrenders and strays are accepted when space is available.

I found Cabin Critters through petfinder. I applied to adopt Jasmine (now Maggie). Cabin critters responded to my application quickly. I gave them all the information they requested. They scheduled an appointment for me to meet her, but was very accommodating of my schedule. I was able to meet Michelle that same day. When I got to the facility, there were lots of dogs. I immediately recognized Maggie and picked her up. The dogs were not in separate kennels. They were allowed to walk around with each other. Michelle was very nice and organized. She was able to tell me about Maggie and had all her paperwork on hand. She even let my 3 year old niece hold and pet some of the dogs. I went home with Maggie that day. The very next day, Cabin Critters texted me to see how things were. Maggie had already snuggled in to my family. She was not scared or timid at all. If I'm ever looking for a new fur baby, I'll go to Cabin Critters. They are amazing. I'll recommend them to anyone. On a side note. I was watching a Cabin Critters video on Facebook, as soon as Maggie heard the voice, she had her face in my phone watching too. I think she recognized that voice and she seemed to be happy!

I came to know and love Halfway Husky House just a bit after I rescued my current husky Ciri. They have been an inspiration through adjusting to life with a husky, which I can assure is quite an adjustment. When adopting Ciri, I had no idea what I was doing with such an intelligent, sweet, energetic, and positively destructive dog. At this point, many owners would see Ciri as a lost cause, and I definitely doubted my abilities to properly care for her. 3H was there to provide educational support and assure me that with time and understanding, Ciri would be her own version of perfect for our family. 3H spends so much time and resources educating and rescuing, and I see Ciri in every face that comes through their door, just looking for a second chance. I believe in them and their mission.

The place is very well ran. The owner is very active on social media to help animals get adopted. They also communicate the needs and sensitivity of each animal. They are as detailed as they can be, even when animals are just dumped. People have come from Canada to adopt from this shelter so if that doesn't say how wonder they are, not sure how much more can be said.

I adopted my dog from SSDR in 2020. I told Barbette, the owner of the rescue, that I didn’t want any dog in particular, I just wanted a dog that fit my lifestyle and was right for me. She matched me up with the absolute sweetest and most perfect catahoula/pittie mix who was rescued from near death after being dumped in the Texas heat with her puppies. I am so beyond grateful for all of the hard work that Barbette and other volunteers put into this non-profit rescue. I decided to start volunteering for them by fostering in 2022. I love that the fosters have a say in where the dog goes, and Barbette really trusts that you know that dog best. She listens to what you say and above all wants what is best for these pups. SSDR rocks!

After I lost my first dog I was absolutely devastated. For weeks I looked for another dog but nothing felt right and I gave up. But before I gave up I put in an application at NBRAN because they had just been part of a huge rescue from a hoarding situation. I was still in a very dark place in my life when they found me a puppy a few weeks later and one look at him and I was in love. He brought me back to life and I cherish every second with him and I am eternally grateful to NBRAN for everything they have done for me.

I adopted my dog Dory thru Almost Home when she was only 10 weeks old. When I adopted her I was told she had more energy than your normal puppy and those words have never been more true! I have worked hard to include brain drain and physical activity to help her live her best life. I am so grateful the rescue was completely honest with me about her needs. We’ve been together almost 4 years and she calms down a little more every year. She keeps me on my toes and makes me so happy!!

    B-squad Dog Rescue

Our first transport was in November of 2014 after the death of Jayla Rodriguez. Dogs were being rounded up with a horse trailer to be disposed of, so many rescue groups got involved to help save as many of the gentle dogs as possible. We loaded our suburban to head to Hot Springs, SD to pick up a load of puppies from KC Willis of LightShine Canine. When we arrived we were nothing short of a hot mess, missing many of the necessary supplies, not quite sure how best to assemble kennels, and fumbling around with the dogs as we loaded them for their ride to safety. I remember feeling discouraged like I had no business in the rescue transport world. I apologized to KC saying that they sent the B-Squad to work with her today. She turned to us and said that the dogs didn't care that we weren't the most organized transport in the world. What mattered was that we were there, doing what we could to help get them to safety. The name B-Squad stuck, and we've transported well over 9,000 dogs to safety since that time. B-Squad Dog Rescue is 100% volunteer-driven. All of our volunteers have full-time jobs, we are hockey moms, photographers, dance moms, professionals, students, etc. We all have busy schedules, but find time to do what we can to help make a difference in the lives of others. B-Squad's motto is you don't have to be perfect to start making a difference today! We aren't professionals‚ we aren't the A-Squad‚ we are just ordinary people doing what we can to help make a difference. We are B-Squad Dog Rescue!

    Western Hills Humane Society

The Western Hills Humane Society is a no-kill, non-suffering pet shelter that protects, saves and enhances the lives of abused, neglected, forgotten or lost animals. We rely on donations, fundraisers, and generous grants we receive to keep this safe haven for precious animals around. Since we are a no-kill shelter some animals wait years to find their forever home but we will willingly keep them for as long as we need. We will accept responsibility as guardians and protectors of each animal and promote a compassionate vision of the way companion animals are valued. We believe it is time to move past the format of simply managing the animal population by euthanization. No animal should die for want of a loving home, making life an option for every animal.

We adopted Kracken now known as Tonka, just after losing my sons Boxer/Old English Bulldog mix to cancer. We were absolutely heart broken and our other dog was lost without her buddy. I saw Kraken on Mckamey's websit and immediately knew we needed to get him. A few days later we visited the shelter and the staff was great. They warned me he was a jumper and had tons of energy, but we used to that already! Within 5 minutes of meeting Tonka I knew he was coming home to his forever home with us. We had a few issues since one of my boys is Autistic but we worked through those and now they are best friends. Tonka is just a normal high energy dog that loves to run and play. He also the typical big dog that doesn't know he's big and has no clue what personal space is! I'm so glad we found our perfect fit at McKamey!

8 years ago, Texas Husky Rescue saved my soul dog, Inti. I lost him shortly after and was devastated. Then, they saved my Darius. He became my emotional support dog. Darius got me through a very messy marriage and separation, helped me through teaching during covid and our current reality as educators after, and was always there for me, even when I didn't know I needed him. I would not have become the strong person I am now if Texas Husky Rescue didn't save him.

Texas Husky Rescue, Inc relies solely on volunteer foster families to take huskies into their homes until permanent, qualified, and loving homes can be found. Texas Husky Rescue, Inc. is a responsible animal adoption agency and ensures that none of our dogs will ever contribute to the overpopulation of dogs in our community. The work of Texas Husky Rescue, Inc. is supported by tax-deductible contributions by individuals, corporations, and grants. Our initial goal when we began in 2009 was to save 30 huskies from area shelters. We have rescued over 2,500 and counting.

We adopted our fur baby from here and really like the setup of how things run here . The volunteers are so friendly and work hard caring for the animals and helping potential adopters get to know the animal they’re interested in. I really like how much they post online to help find the right match for animals needing homes. They truly care about the health of the animals too because we were adopting during dog flu and they had a dog we were interested in isolating and went over protocol with us if we still wanted to see the dog. They’re very transparent about what you may run into health wise as far as they and include that in your paperwork. It’s also nice all the goodies such as a bed and treats they include to help set you up if you need them and the first vet visit is free at locations they list in your paperwork. They make me want to come back, but our home is full. I’m glad they post supply lists as reminders we can help in other ways if we can’t adopt.

I've fostered for Arctic Rescue 5 times and loved each and every dog. The work that Arctic Rescue does is so important because it seems people don't know what they are getting into when they first adopt an Arctic breed. Arctic Rescue works hard to educate people on the breeds and encourage working with these dogs through any difficulties that they are facing so that the true spirit of the animals can be seen.

Arctic Breeds Rescue has been rescuing animals in Utah and the surrounding states for over 20 years. We specialize in rescuing Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes. Many of the dogs we take into rescue are deemed "unadoptable" by shelters or local government and have no other options other than to come to a breed specific rescue who can find them a home where they can be set up to succeed. The purpose of the Organization shall be: To rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome arctic breed dogs in need, including but not limited to breeds such as Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Samoyeds and mixed breeds of the aforementioned. To provide basic medical care, spaying/neutering, and vaccinations to rescued dogs. To educate the public about responsible dog ownership, including breed-specific needs, training, and the importance of spaying/neutering. To positively impact the community through community and/or youth outreach by sharing the inspiring stories of rescued canines.

The Humane Society of Utah is really good about reaching out to the community if they need help and the community always steps up because they know how valuable the work they do is. If there's a need for blankets, food, or any type of supplies and they mention the need on any of their social media accounts, their shelves are restocked by the end of the week. They also have the best ideas for fundraisers. From bingo nights, to galas and silent auctions the Utah Humane Society is very creative when it comes to raising money and it is how they keep up the valuable community support. Their social media team is quite good and creative. It's fun to see updates of dogs who have found their forever home and see how best to give support to the animals.

Robin has invested many years learning best practices to rescue dogs primarily from death row at high kill shelters through working with other rescues where Robin met fellow dog rescue advocate and friend, Tamara, and decided the most effective way to save even more dogs was to establish a new entity in Chittenden County and surrounding areas. Many people who personally know Robin and Tamara recognize their passion and dedication to the dogs. Today, we have an amazing team of professional, highly-dedicated volunteers who help us rescue from high kill shelters, provide safe environments with foster families/adopters, educate the community and advocate for animal rights. Our group is staffed entirely by volunteers and served by a board of directors. Our efforts are supported through donations, charity events, corporate/employee benefit tax deductible donation programs, and the generosity of animal lovers from within the community. Our rescue focus is exclusive to dogs. 100% of all funds received go directly towards saving dogs and are used strictly for this purpose to include shelter fees, boarding fees, medical bills, transport fees, food, supplies, all in support of our mission.

We work with shelters and owners who cannot keep their pets and through extensive veterinary care and training, we rehabilitate them and place them in loving, forever homes where the animals will never again be abandoned. More than 30% of the animals we take in are special or medically needy and require more extensive and expensive care. In all we work with all ages, breeds, many species and all different types of humans too- treating each as an individual so they can find the life and love they deserve.

We have adopted cats from CHA for for a long time - have gotten our best friends 7 times. The first concern is for the wellbeing of the resident rescues. The staff has always been so helpful and friendly, very helpful choosing the right kitty. The volunteers are vital to keeping the shelter running and are right there to keep all the cats and dogs well and happy. I've been going to CHA for 40 years and it has been equally well run over the years. When you walk into CHA - you will be amazed that it smells so fresh and clean - not at all like some shelters. Come visit and rescue your next furever family member.
